Cardinals hire Ray Horton as defensive coordinator
The Arizona Cardinals didn’t let Ray Horton get out the door.
They waited weeks to be able to interview the Pittsburgh Steelers secondary coach for their defensive coordinator job, and Horton was named to that position this afternoon, just hours after an interview began.
It was believed that Steelers linebackers coach Keith Butler was the top choice of Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt, but Pittsburgh denied the Cardinals permission to meet with him. The Cardinals also had interest in Horton and he got the job.
Horton was in demand as the Dallas Cowboys were trying to lure him to be their defensive backs coach. Now, they’ll go in a different direction while the Cardinals have their man to replace Bill Davis, who was fired early last month after two years on the job.
