Cardinals juggle coaching staff, add Frank Reich to mix

The Arizona Cardinals were unsuccessful in bringing back Todd Haley to work with their quarterbacks but they had a plan.

John McNulty, the team’s wide receivers coach, has been moved to quarterbacks coach, the team announced this afternoon. The club recently denied permission for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to interview McNulty for the offensive coordinator position on Greg Schiano’s staff.

Replacing McNulty will be Frank Reich, the former quarterback. Reich coached wide receivers this past season for the Indianapolis Colts. Reich, a 14-year veteran as a player in the NFL, spent the last six seasons in Indianapolis, and also coached quarterbacks there.

Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt had hoped to reunite with Haley, and met with the team’s former offensive coordinator last month at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala. But the Cardinals probably were not going to name Haley offensive coordinator, and he picked up that specific title earlier this week when he was hired by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
