Cardinals releasing S Adrian Wilson

The Arizona Cardinals have informed safety Adrian Wilson that he will be released today.

The move was first reported by Mike Jurecki of XTRA 910.

Wilson has been one of the best defensive players the franchise has had since it relocated to Arizona. Team president Michael Bidwill announced that he will one day have a place in the team’s Ring of Honor, in a statement released by the club.

Wilson had a $1 million roster bonus that was due on Tuesday and the move will create $3 million in cap savings this year for the club, according to the NFP’s Joel Corry. Wilson will count $1.925 million against the team’s cap, however.

Wilson is one of only four defensive backs in NFL history with 25 interceptions and 25 sacks, a distinguished list that includes Ronde Barber, Brian Dawkins and Rodney Harrison.
