Cassel OK with competition at quarterback
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel said he doesn't mind a little competition for the starting position.
According to the Kansas City Star, Cassel should enter camp as the starter for the Chiefs, who signed Brady Quinn as a free agent in the off-season. Quinn has not taken a regular-season snap the past two years with Denver.
Kansas City also has second-year man Ricky Stanzi, who did not see action in 2011 behind Cassel and then Kyle Orton.
It is also possible the Chiefs could use a draft choice on a quarterback as well. But Cassel said he is ready not only for the challenges that will come from the other quarterbacks, but challenges himself as well.
“As a quarterback in the NFL, you have to have that mentality every day with not only the people in your room but with yourself,’’ Cassel said. “The minute you start to become lackadaisical and the minute you start not studying as hard, it catches up to you. I’ve always had the mentality that I have to push myself to be the best I can be, and that’s not going to change. I’m always going to look to get better in each and every way.’’
