CB Owusu-Ansah visiting Bears today
The busy dance card of Akwasi Owusu-Ansah got busier when the Chicago Bears called and got him to head there way after a pre-draft visit with the Minnesota Vikings.
The cornerback from Indiana (Pa.) is a fast riser and is getting increased attention with the draft just 15 days off. He’s meeting with the Bears this afternoon at Halas Hall and has a total of seven visits that have been completed or are scheduled. He’s known to have met with Dallas and Miami also already.
Owusu-Ansah is an intriguing prospect because of his size – a shade under 6-1, 207 pounds – and speed – 4.32 seconds in the 40-yard dash. He’s going to have to make the adjustment from the Division II level, but scouts like what they have seen from him. He was productive on special teams and some clubs may consider him as a safety. That is certainly a top need for the Bears.
"Whatever I can help the team," Owusu-Ansah said when asked about playing safety. "I've had to do a lot of explaining about our defense. We had a unique kind of defense. I definitely had to explain why I played at safety (sometimes), why I played at corner. We had different coverages for different situations. Certain coverages, I would be playing the safety position. Other coverages, I wouldn't."
