Chiefs' Poe finding slow go

First-round pick Dontari Poe isn't exactly soaring up the Kansas City Chiefs' depth chart during the early part of training camp, says the Kansas City Star.

Coach Romeo Crennel says the rookie defensive tackle has a ways to go before in terms of learning the defense and improving his technique.

“He needs to work on technique, he needs to work on understanding the system, he needs to get the calls correct all the time. He’s got a ways to go," Crennel said.

Poe admits he still has plenty of work to do in adjusting from being a college standout at the University of Memphis to finding success at the NFL level.

"It’s all different,” he said. “The technique of it, there’s nothing the same about the college level. The only thing the same is that it’s football. As far as the speed level and the strength and all that, you’ve got to learn it all over again.

“I still have a ways to go but I’m getting better every day. I’m just trying to do what I can, trying to do everything they teach me.”
