Chiefs put Matt Cassel on IR

At first, the Kansas City Chiefs had held out some hope that Matt Cassel might be able to return from his hand injury.

But now, they have decided to officially shut the quarterback down for the remainder of the season, placing him on injured reserve, according to ESPNBoston.com's Mike Reiss.

The Chiefs officially promoted receiver Jeremy Horne from the practice squad to the 53-man roster, and it means that Kansas City will finish out the rest of the season with Tyler Palko at quarterback. Palko makes his first start tonight against New England.

Cassel suffered the injury last week against Denver and had surgery on the hand shortly thereafter.
