Chiefs safety Steve Gregory retires

Veteran Kansas City Chiefs safety Steve Gregory is retiring.

Gregor played six seasons for the San Diego Chargers and the last two years for the New England Patriots.

Gregory, 31, was signed by the Chiefs last month.

"After entering the game as an undrafted free agent, I was fortunate enough to play twice as long as the average player," Gregory said in a statement. "I'm tremendously happy with my decision and being able to walk away from this great game both healthy and on my own terms."

Gregory recorded 386 career tackles, seven interceptions and 27 special-teams tackles.
