Chiefs suffer worst opening-day loss in team history
The Kansas City Chiefs looked like anything but a defending division champion on Sunday, taking a 41-7 beating at the hands of the usually lowly Buffalo Bills.
So bad was the loss that Adam Teicher of the Kansas City Star characterized it this way, “It was the kind of resounding defeat that can carry demoralizing effects for weeks.”
In fact, it was the worst opening-day loss in the 52-year history of the franchise, which is quite a statement given the many lean years Chiefs fans have suffered through at various times in the team's existence.
The good news for the Chiefs is that it is only one game. The bad news, another revitalized former doormat is on the schedule for next week when the Chiefs face the Detroit Lions.
