Childress says NFL admits blown calls in Vikings' loss

The Minnesota Vikings can claim they got more than a loss Sunday night at Lambeau Field.

They can claim to have received the shaft as well.

That is what a couple of botched touchdown calls amounted to for them, and coach Brad Childress could have helped himself by challenging one of them.

According to Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Childress announced at his afternoon press conference that the NFL informed him referee Scott Green made an error when he overturned by replay review what was originally ruled a touchdown reception by tight end Visanthe Shiancoe.

The one Childress missed was a touchdown reception by Packers tight end Andew Quarless. The NFL told Childress it would have been overturned on challenge, but he kept the replay flag in his pocket.

Obviously, both plays made a significant impact in a 28-24 loss.

“I asked, 'Was it a catch upstairs (to the Vikings assistant coaches who monitor the replays)?'” Childress said. “It came back over one replay quickly, they said, 'It looks like a catch.' I thought the timing was much different on that catch that could have been questionable than Shiancoe's. They typically tell you that the timing will be, if there's a question, will hold it on the extra point so guys can get a look at it upstairs. I just thought it went quicker and then it went to a commercial. Obviously by the time you kick the try it's too late (to challenge). When you get a chance to slow it down and get a look at again.

“Do I wish I would have (challenged)? Yeah, I do wish I would have because I was told it would have been an incomplete pass. Just like I was told this morning that (Shiancoe's catch) was a touchdown by (NFL head of officials) Carl Johnson and that he was disappointed to see that reversed.”
