Chris Hovan to try hand at coaching high school football

Chris Hovan hasn’t announced that he’s done playing in the NFL, but the defensive lineman has gotten a jump on some post- career opportunities.

Hovan is doing radio work in the Tampa, Fla., area and he’s signed on as an assistant football coach for Chamberlain High, a Tampa school, according to the St. Petersburg Times. Hovan will work with the defensive line during spring drills.

“I'm sure he's going to do a good job,” coach Joe Severino said. “We really need guys like him who are fiery and motivated. We need some of the younger guys who are out there who can fire the kids up. I'm sure his knowledge of techniques and stuff is at the highest level. All the kids look up to a professional player.”

Hovan spent last season on injured reserve as a member of the St. Louis Rams. He had a back injury. He rejuvenated his career in five seasons with the Buccaneers. Severino is hopeful Hovan will be with his team during the fall.
