Until the lockout is resolved and the NFL gets back to business, there will be speculation what veteran quarterback the Minnesota Vikings might choose to target.

Donovan McNabb’s name has been mentioned. Now, Kyle Orton is reportedly on the radar.

But until there is an experienced play caller on the roster, Christian Ponder is going to be in position as the No. 1 . The first-round draft is scheduled to begin workout out with teammates soon in the Tampa area, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Ponder has been in contact with wide receiver Percy Harvin and others, and he’s anxious to get going. The nice thing is Ponder got part of the playbook Bill Musgrave will install with the Vikings as the team’s first-year offensive coordinator. Ponder – and his teammates – can start on Page 1 together.
