Chuck Pagano says Trent Richardson was benched for special teams
The Indianapolis Colts scratched running back Trent Richardson for their playoff win over the Denver Broncos.
Yes, he was a healthy scratch.
Why did Michael Hill play instead?
Colts coach Chuck Pagano explains: "Michael Hill was a special teams player and Trent -- it's not any knock on Trent -- but Trent's never been asked to be a special teams player. He was doing everything for a period of time to try to get himself ready. But Michael was more ready to go out and be the third back and contribute on special teams."
Plus, Richardson isn't even the backup running back anymore. He's lost that job to Zurlon Tipton.
Not good, obviously, for a former first-round draft pick whom the Colts traded a first-round pick to the Cleveland Browns to acquire in 2013.
