Cincinnati Wide Receiver Mardy Gilyard
Mardy Gilyard: No. 1, WR, 6-0, 187
A thin, shifty receiver who exhibits good initial burst off of the snap, Gilyard gets into his routes quickly. He showcases good body control and change-of-direction skills underneath and does a nice job of getting back up to gear and running through coverage. He has a good feel vs. zone coverage, consistently keeps his concentration, and plucks the ball with his hands. Gilyard does a nice job of changing speeds in and out of his breaks and working back toward the ball. He possesses good awareness and gets his head around quickly. He has good wiggle in the open field and the ability to make a man miss. He can create after the catch. He gets up to speed quickly, but is more quick than fast. He lacks the type of deep speed to simply run by NFL-caliber corners vertically. Gilyard lacks ideal physicality off of the line and can be bullied and slowed into his routes. He struggles to consistently beat press coverage and separate downfield vs. more physical corners who aren’t afraid to get up in his face and press him off the line. He has the shiftiness as a route runner to separate on the outside at the next level when he gets a free release, but will struggle vs. physical corners in press/man coverage.
