Clay Matthews believes sacks will increase soon
It's a bit odd for Packers linebacker Clay Matthews to only have one sack through six games.
Usually a statistic machine, offenses have limited him this year, focusing on preventing the Pro Bowl linebacker from getting to the quarterback. However, Matthews is taking a patient approach when it comes to producing better stats.
“Obviously, you’d love to have more stats,” Matthews told the team's official website. “I know the sacks will come and the numbers will always be there.”
It also helps that the Packers are winning games despite the lack of sacks Matthews is providing. After a slow start to the year, Green Bay is now 4-2 and seems to be sustaining some solid momentum — more so on the offensive side of the ball, though.
There's no doubt that Matthews' season will turn around. He's too talented of a player to continue his early-season slump. But even if he doesn't tally a ton of sacks this year, his presence on the field should help out his teammates.
And then of course he has Aaron Rodgers and the playmakers on the other side of the ball to help out too.
