Colts activate Manning from PUP

Reports of Peyton Manning’s demise have been greatly exaggerated as the veteran quarterback – he of the 208 consecutive starts – was activated from the physically unable to perform list, the Indianapolis Colts announced on Monday.

Manning has been bothered by nerve problems in his neck and underwent surgery in the off-season. There had been plenty of question as to whether or not he would be able to start the regular-season opener against the Houston Texans on Sept. 11, and the Colts pulled veteran quarterback Kerry Collins out of retirement as an insurance policy last week, as they were not satisfied with the preseason play of Curtis Painter and Dan Orlovsky.
