Colts fire Jim Caldwell
Someone else will reap the rewards that could be brought on by Andrew Luck.
The Indianapolis Colts announced Tuesday that they have fired Coach Jim Caldwell and have scheduled a 4 p.m. EST press conference to provide details.
The move is the first by new general manager Ryan Grigson, who was hired last week from the Philadelphia Eagles organization.
There has been speculation that Caldwell might survive after the Colts fired both Bill and Chris Polian immediatley after a 2-14 season. But Grigson said he would evaluate Caldwell and the coaching situation. On Tuesday, he made his decision, going forward without Caldwell and electing to bring in a coach of his own choosing.
Caldwell's firing puts the coup de grace on the Colts' freefall from the Super Bowl two years ago to the worst record in the league this year and now holding the first pick in the draft. Caldwell's regular-season record in three seasons in Indy was 26-22.
