Colts place QB Collins on IR

When the Indianapolis Colts coaxed Kerry Collins out of retirement as insurance for Peyton Manning's neck injury, it was lauded as a good move by the team.

But as Collins struggled to pick up the Colts offense, and then suffered a concussion against Pittsburgh, the move simply did not pay off. Now, the Colts are 0-7 with Curtis Painter at the controls, and Collins' season and most likely his career are over.

Collins, in his 17th NFL season, signed a two-year deal in Indianapolis, but is more likely to go back to songwriting than fulfill a second season in Indianapolis, no matter what happens with Manning's future.

The Colts also put fullback Chris Gronkowski on injured reserve, signed guard Jamey Richards and brought back offensive tackle Michael Toudouze. Running back Darrell Evans was also added to th practice squad as the Colts continue to shuffle their roster in search of help in the wake of a 62-7 smashing by New Orleans on Sunday Night Football.
