Colts sign Josh Boyce, Brian Tyms, cut Ben Heenan

The Indianapolis Colts signed free agent wide receivers Josh Boyce and Brian Tyms and waived guard Ben Heenan. Boyce, 5-11, 205 pounds, most recently spent time with the New England Patriots. He has played in 10 career NFL games (three starts) and totaled nine receptions for 121 yards and nine kickoff returns for 214 yards. Boyce spent the entire 2015 offseason and training camp with the Patriots before being placed on the team’s Injured Reserve list on September 1, 2015. In 2014, he spent the first 16 weeks of the regular season on New England’s practice squad before being signed to the active roster and playing in the regular season finale. Boyce was inactive for all three postseason contests in 2014 but was a member of the Patriots’ Super Bowl XLIX Championship team. He saw action in nine games (three starts) as a rookie in 2013 and finished with nine receptions for 121 yards and nine kickoff returns for 214 yards. Boyce was originally selected by the Patriots in the fourth round (102nd overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft out of TCU. Tyms, 6-3, 205 pounds, spent the last two seasons with the Patriots. He has appeared in 18 career NFL games (two starts) and contributed seven receptions for 94 yards and one touchdown in his time with New England (2014-15), the Cleveland Browns (2013) and the Miami Dolphins (2012). Tyms has also seen action in one postseason contest. In 2015, he spent the entire offseason and training camp with the Patriots before being placed on the team’s Injured Reserve list on August 25, 2015. Tyms played in 11 games (two starts) in 2014 and caught five passes for 82 yards and one touchdown. He also appeared in one postseason contest and won Super Bowl XLIX with New England. In 2013, Tyms spent the first six weeks of the regular season on the Dolphins practice squad before being signed to the Browns active roster. He saw action in seven games for Cleveland and compiled two receptions for 12 yards. In 2012, Tyms spent his entire rookie season on Miami’s practice squad. He originally signed with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent out of Florida A&M on May 4, 2012. Tyms spent the entire 2012 offseason and training camp with the 49ers, but was released prior to the start of the season. Heenan, 6-4, 315 pounds, signed a reserve/future contract with the Colts on January 5, 2016. He spent the final nine weeks of the 2015 regular season on Indianapolis’ practice squad. Heenan spent time with the Colts during the 2015 offseason and training camp after originally signing with the team on February 4, 2015. He was waived by the team during training camp on August 7. Prior to joining the Colts, Heenan started 49-of-52 games in three seasons (2012-14) with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League (CFL).
