Concussion lingers for Carolina's Matt Moore too

Philadelphia’s Kevin Kolb isn’t the only quarterback in the NFL getting checked out for a concussion on the morning after.

Carolina’s Matt Moore was briefly hospitalized with what coach John Fox called a concussion on Sunday in New York before being cleared to fly home with the team. He took a big hit from Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora late in a sloppy game for the Panthers offense.

The Panthers never got in gear in the 31-18 loss and Moore was responsible for four turnovers, including three interceptions in the end zone. If he’s deemed unable to start this week, then rookie second-round draft pick Jimmy Clausen will make his first NFL start against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Carolina’s offense was as high-powered as a water pistol in preseason when the team failed to score an offensive touchdown in four games. Moore finished 14 of 33 for 182 yards with one touchdown, a 19-yard pass to Steve Smith.

We’ll see if Moore can recover in time for a start this week. Concussions are a tricky business and the team knows it needs to proceed with caution.
