Conflicting reports on whether Dolphins balked at giving Fisher control
There are conflicting reports of whether Jeff Fisher's decision to go to St. Louis over Miami hinged on the Dolphins' reluctance to have the former Titans coach's power trump GM Jeff Ireland.
Michael Silver of Yahoo!, who has had a long-standing relationship with Fisher that dates back many years, tweeted that Ross would not take personnel control away from Ireland and give it to Fisher, and that apparently was a deal breaker.
However, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald says that was not the case, citing a source from inside the Dolphins' organization, who told him it was his understanding that Fisher and Ireland would work together on personnel matters and that Fisher never requested full control.
At any rate, it is done. Fisher is headed to St. Louis and the Dolphins are left still looking for their next head coach.
In one respect, it's hard to feel much sympathy for Ross and Ireland for having been somewhat played by Fisher, considering they hung Tony Sprarano out to dry last year by offering his job to Jim Harbaugh and then having to awkwardly retain him after Harbaugh went to San Francisco instead.
