Coughlin on edge as Giants prepare for Eagles
A bad home loss to the hapless Dallas Cowboys and then watching his upcoming opponent go bonkers the following night on “Monday Night Football” has New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin on edge.
Just a little bit.
Coughlin could only chew on his team’s loss to the Cowboys for so long before he had to gulp as he saw Michael Vick score six touchdowns the next night in a demolition of the Washington Redskins. Coughlin’s Giants head to Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia Sunday for a meeting with the Eagles with first place in the NFC East up for grabs.
Troubling the Giants are some injuries on the offensive line. Shawn Andrews, who has filled in for David Diehl at left tackle, missed practice for the second consecutive day Thursday with a back issue. How edgy is Coughlin? Well, we turn to the Twitter account of Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News for a sampling of the coach’s press conference today. Coughlin was asked if Andrews missing practice today concerns him.
“The fact that you’re standing on my grass concerns me,” Coughlin said. “Yes, everything concerns me."
He was then asked if Andrews’ back issue is related to the back problems that forced him to miss nearly all of the last two seasons and undergo surgeries.
“Whatever,” Coughlin replied.
Yes, the Giants are feeling the pressure of a key divisional game in late November.
