Dashon Goldson wins appeal, suspension overturned, fined $100,000

The NFL has overturned Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Dashon Goldson's suspension on an appeal heard by hearing officer Matt Birk.

Instead of a suspension, Goldson has been fined $100,000.

Birk also upheld Goldson's $30,000 fine from the first week.

Goldson was suspended for one game without pay on Monday by NFL vice president of football pperations Merton Hanks for a flagrant and repeat violation of the rule prohibiting helmet-to-helmet hits against defenseless players.

One more infraction and Goldson is probably headed toward a suspension that won't be overturned.
