Dave Meggett sentenced to 30 years in prison for sexual assault

Dave Meggett, a two-time Pro Bowl performer and a member of the Super Bowl XXV New York Giants, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison in South Carolina after he was convicted of criminal sexual conduct and burglary charges.

The Associated Press reports that Meggett, who was a running back and a return man from 1989 to 1998, was accused of assaulting a college student at her house in North Charleston, S.C. Meggett, 42, did not take the stand in his own defense, according to the report. His attorney indicated that they would appeal the verdict.

Meggett has a history of sexual assault cases. He was arrested following an incident in Toronto with an escort in a “three-way sexual encounter.” In 1998. He resigned from a job in Robersonville, N.C., four years ago after his girlfriend accused him of sexual assault. He was sentenced to two years probation in that case.

Meggett also played for the New England Patriots and New York Jets and was long a favorite of coach Bill Parcells.
