Dave Toub returns to Bears
The Miami Dolphins informed Dave Toub he is no longer in the running to be the team’s head coach but he did land a good contract today.
The Chicago Bears announced that Toub will return as he has signed a two-year contract to return as the team’s special teams coordinator. The deal makes Toub one of the top-paid special teams coaches in the NFL.
An original member of Lovie Smith’s coaching staff since 2004, Toub has consistently put together one of the league’s best special teams units. The Bears ranked third in composite rankings this past season and have been in the top six in five of the last six seasons.
Special teams ace Corey Graham will represent the Bears in the Pro Bowl this season and is the eighth player to make the Pro Bowl under Toub. Since Toub joined the Bears, they have led the NFL in return touchdowns and blocked kicks.
The Dolphins are the first team to interview Toub as a head-coaching candidate. Provided he continues to excel, his name could pop up for openings in the future. Toub was out of his contract with the Bears.
