David Garrard hopes to be in mix for teams soon

The big quarterback on the market, Peyton Manning, has yet to make a decision.

But there’s been consistent movement for backup quarterbacks now in the third day of free agency and more could come shortly. Drew Stanton is on a visit to the New York Jets and Shaun Hill will meet with the St. Louis Rams.

As Anwar Richardson of MLive.com points out, that could leave the Detroit Lions in need of a backup and a No. 3 behind Matthew Stafford.

One quarterback looking to make a move after sitting out last season is David Garrard. The former Jacksonville Jaguars starter is going to be lining up potential visits, per the report.

“Once Peyton makes a decision, based on recent activity, David will be a hot quarterback,” said Al Irby, who represents Garrard.

The34-year-old is a one-time Pro Bowl selection but there are concerns about his health. Garrard had back surgery when he sat out last season to fix a herniated disk. He’s been medically cleared but teams will want to get a good look at him before committing.

Add Garrard to the list of possible backups as musical quarterbacks continues. The music will really get loud when Manning finally chooses.
