Defensive coordinator will be critical hire for Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys may have to act quickly if they want to land Greg Manusky as their defensive coordinator.
He met with coach Jason Garrett and owner Jerry Jones on Wednesday, but Manusky, who was with the San Francisco 49ers for the past four years, is in demand. Manusky has interviewed with the Arizona Cardinals and is scheduled to meet with the San Diego Chargers as well.
Manusky was with the Chargers before going to San Francisco, and Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that San Diego is considered to be the front-runner for Manusky’s services. The Cowboys have also interviewed Vic Fangio, the defensive coordinator from Stanford, but most reports indicate he is expected to follow Jim Harbaugh to San Francisco and join the 49ers.
The Cowboys struggled mightily on defense this past season and that makes this a critical hire for Garrett as he puts together his staff.
