DeMaurice Smith gets new 3-year contract to head NFLPA

Less than a year after guiding the NFLPA through the lockout, DeMaurice Smith has received a new contract.

While some have been critical of the work of Smith, who replaced a man that had held the position for more than two decades in Gene Upshaw, he was unanimously re-elected to his post, according to Jay Feely.

Congratulations to De Smith being reelected unanimously to executive director of NFLPA for 3 more yrs,” Feely wrote on his Twitter account.

Since Feely’s post, the NFLPA has confirmed Smith was reaffirmed by the NFLPA’s Board of Player Representatives. Those who have criticized Smith include high-powered sports attorney David Cornwell.
