Deshaun Watson to have surgery on broken hand

Clemson freshman quarterback Deshaun Watson will miss about a month's worth of time due to a broken hand, coach Dabo Swinney announced on Monday.

Watson had become Clemson's starting quarterback after the Tigers' narrow loss to Florida State on Sept. 20. He came in relief and completed 19 of 28 passes for 266 yards against the defending national champions. Now he'll be back on the sideline.

Watson will have surgery on his hand. Senior Cole Stoudt will likely assume the starting role for the time being.

Watson was a highly touted dual-threat quarterback recruit out of Gainesville High School in Georgia.
