Dolphins hire Sherman, Coyle as coordinators

Joe Philbin is busy putting together his first staff with the Miami Dolphins.

According to Jason LaCanfora of the NFL Network, Philbin has settled on his first coordinators.

Former Green Bay Packers head coach and more recently Texas A&M head coach Mike Sherman will run the Dolphins' offense, while Kevin Coyle, who had been with the Cincinnati Bengals, will coordinate the Miami defense.

Sherman is an old hand around football and it will be interesting to see what quarterback comes on board to work with him. If the Dolphins go after Matt Flynn, whom Philbin coached in Green Bay, Sherman has some experience in having developed a young QB assuming a starting role, having worked with Matt Schaub in Schaub's first year with the Houston Texans.

But Sherman, of course, also worked the Brett Favre for years in Green Bay, so if the Dolphins make a run at Peyton Manning, as many have speculated, then Sherman has experience working with a veteran quarterback who knows the ropes.
