Dolphins send Garrard packing

For the second straight season, David Garrard has been sent packing on the week of the opening game.

Garrard was released by the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday, after being the team's starting quarterback early in training camp until a knee injury forced him to have arthroscopic surgery.

Garrard, of course, was unceremoniously dumped by the Jacksonville Jaguars just before their season opener last year and later underwent back surgery and sat out all of 2011.

The Dolphins also on Tuesday placed veteran guard Artis Hicks on injured reserve and re-signed tackle Rey Feinga, who was let go on Aug. 31.
