Don't look for Giants on 'Hard Knocks' any summer soon
It’s a new era for football in New York with the opening of the New Meadowlands Stadium today.
The Giants will get the first crack at it today, hosting the Carolina Panthers, and the Jets will host the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night.
The Jets have captured the spotlight after reaching the AFC Championship Game last season and then getting national buzz from their appearance on HBO’s “Hard Knocks.” But there is a real buzz for the Giants, despite the fact that injuries marred some of training camp.
“I can't ever remember being this excited and this apprehensive and this nervous beginning a season," Giants owner John Mara told Mike Lupica of the New York Daily News. "It starts with moving into our new building. An expensive new building that cost so much money and effort to get built. But a lot of the excitement, and the nervousness, about the stadium is coupled with the way we ended last season."
So, would the Giants be interested in capturing some of the spotlight the Jets did with an appearance on “Hard Knocks?” Not so fast.
“That announcement will come when I'm next to my father in Gates of Heaven cemetery,” Mara said.
