Don't rule Matthew Stafford out for Sunday just yet

Maybe, just maybe the Detroit Lions will get Matthew Stafford back for Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos.

They sure need him. After a 5-0 start, the Lions are reeling a bit following consecutive home losses. Stafford suffered a sprained right ankle on the final offensive play of the team’s loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday at Ford Field. He was in a walking boot and early speculation was he wouldn’t be ready.

All of a sudden, he was able to practice on a limited basis today.

He looked good. Whipping the ball around,” receiver Nate Burleson said, according to the Detroit Free Press. “I don’t really know the diagnosis; I don’t even know how bad it is. All I know is he was out there today, throwing the ball around. If he’s able to play, we’re going to be a good team. If Shaun (Hill)’s out there, we’re going to be a good team.”
Stafford practiced with an ankle brace on and at one point trainers had to fit him with a new shoe.

“Hopefully, we can keep him on that track, and if he’s able to go Sunday, then he will,” coach Jim Schwartz said. “He’s our starting quarterback, but we’ve got to be prepared in any case.”

So, don’t rule Stafford out just yet.
