Drew Brees discusses his frustration with contract situation

The New Orleans Saints and Drew Brees are not close on a contract for the quarterback.

They can’t be if Brees says a “lack of communication” is his biggest frustration from the current situation.

The Saints have placed the franchise tag on Brees so he has not shown up for the offseason program. The franchise that is missing its head coach is missing its franchise quarterback and you have to wonder what is going on here. This club needs a dose of good news in the worst possible way but nothing is going on right now, and Brees talked to WWL radio in New Orleans.

“I would say more than anything, I guess, what's been a little frustrating on my end or disappointing is the lack of communication,” Brees said, according to Mike Triplett of the New Orleans Times-Picayune. “There's always a back and forth when it comes to these negotiations. But I know we've reached out on quite a few occasions. And at times, I know I've been frustrated with the lack of response.
“I would just say there should be a sense of urgency and yet it seems like there's not.”

OTA’s begin next week and barring a breakthrough Chase Daniel will be the quarterback directing the offense.

“It's been extremely frustrating for me,” Brees said. “I didn't think the negotiation really should have been this difficult. But here we are.”

If a franchise quarterback can be underpaid, Brees has been. He was earning roughly $10 million per season on his old deal. It will be interesting to see what course this thing takes. There is so much negative energy around the Saints right now, you can’t help but wonder what will transpire this season.
