Drew Brees emails teammates, tells them deal is done
By now, everyone is expecting a wave of positive news Monday when the NFLPA Executive Committee plans to vote to accept the tentative labor deal that has been reached with owners.
It’s so expected, in fact, that Drew Brees has sent his New Orleans Saints teammates an email informing them that the deal is done. Brees has been heavily involved in the labor process, from being a plaintiff in the Tom Brady case to working closely on matters to find a resolution. He's been an outspoken supporter of the players, so much so that Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe fired on him in his own special way.
Brees’ email, per a league source, includes a timeline for the Saints, including physicals on Saturday. So that means training camp in New Orleans should be firing up soon after that.
There’s a positive vibe about the labor situation. We’ve felt them before, particularly in the last few weeks. This one should have some more staying power. Player representatives will likely vote on the deal Monday and the process will go from there. Brees is confident it will anyway.
