Drew Stanton will be second No. 3 QB to face Bears in 3 weeks

On the same week Matthew Stafford will begin some light throwing in his second return from a separated right shoulder this season, the Detroit Lions have lost another quarterback.

Shaun Hill could miss the remainder of the season as he has a fractured right index finger and was spotted at practice with a splint on the finger on Tuesday, according to Tim Twentyman of the Detroit News. The Lions were not saying anything about the latest development at the position they can’t keep healthy, but Twentyman cited a league source on the extent of the injury.

As usual, coach Jim Schwartz did his best Sgt. Schultz imitation, or something like that.

“I'm really not going to comment on anything as far as that," Schwartz said. "Tuesday is an extra day for us. With the Bears not practicing today it doesn't make any sense for us to talk about it ourselves. It's not so much holding anything back it's just a competitive thing with Chicago not practicing today and no sense giving them a jump on anything."

That means Drew Stanton will start on Sunday against the Chicago Bears at Ford Field, making him the second No. 3 quarterback to go against that defense in three weeks. The Bears recently faced Miami’s Tyler Thigpen in a 16-0 shutout of the Dolphins. The Lions also worked out J.T. O’Sullivan and Josh McCown.
