Dumervil wanted 'change of scenery' with Ravens

Elvis Dumervil is ready to begin the next chapter of his football career as a Baltimore Raven, saying the fluke paperwork snafu that freed him from the Denver Broncos prompted him to seek a change of scenery.

It was an unfortunate situation that happened," Dumervil said at his introductory press conference via the Baltimore Sun. "Obviously leaving a really good organization like the Denver Broncos, they're proven winners, I have nothing but good things to say about the organization. But when an opportunity came that I could come to another winner and a first-class organization, it was just leaving one great one to another great one. So I took it. .. Sometimes, you have to make a tough decision. I just felt like it was time to change the scenery."

Dumervil's five-year, $26 million deal with the Ravens helped him in his change of scenery, and Ravens coach John Harbaugh welcomed him into the fold in Baltimore.

"Elvis Dumervil is our kind of guy," Harbaugh said. "He fits us. He's a Raven. That's how he's always played. We loved him coming out of Louisville. I don't want to say we feared him, but we certainly respected him as a football player. This is the kind of player you have to game plan around. We're excited to have him as a part of the organization."
