The Philadelphia Eagles bolstered their front office today by naming Tom Gamble the vice president of player personnel, putting him in a position where he will work directly under general manager Howie Roseman handling pro and college scouting issues.

Gamble jumps to the Eagles where his father Harry was president from 1986 to 1995. Gamble was the director of player personnel for the San Francisco 49ers for the previous two seasons and spent eight years total with the Niners.

“Since Ryan Grigson left to become the General Manager of the Colts, we’ve been looking for the right person to fill his spot and we are excited about what Tom can bring to the team,” Roseman said in a story on the team’s Web site. “He’s not only a talented evaluator, but also a good man and the type of person you want as a part of your team. Tom and I have had a great relationship over the years and I know he’s excited to come home. He had a great run in San Francisco and they have been very successful over the last few years. He will jump right in with our group and get working on free agency and the draft.”

Gamble, 49, has had a hand in helping develop 11 playoff teams in his 25-year career. He worked in Philadelphia previously, handling a variety of roles including college scouting administrator, area scout, contract negotiator and director of pro scouting.
