Eagles hire Joe Douglas, Andy Weidl for executive roles
The Philadelphia Eagles hired Joe Douglas as vice president of player personnel and Andy Weidl as assistant director of player personnel. T “It’s imperative to me that we have a player personnel department that is not only top-notch and innovative, but has excellent communication with all phases of our football operations,” owner Jeffrey Lurie said in a statement. “It’s a crucial part of the success of an NFL franchise and it will always be a priority for me. I’m very pleased how thorough and patient we were with the search process that began in January.” Alec Halaby was named vice president of football operations and strategy. Tom Donahoe moved back to senior football adviser. Anthony Patch returns to the Eagles as senior director of college scouting, with Trey Brown now the director of college scouting. Mike Bradway was named the assistant director of college scouting, and Rick Mueller is back in place as player personnel executive. Douglas was the Chicago Bears' director of college scouting. He was previously with the Baltimore Ravens' scouting department. He was instrumental in adding quarterback Joe Flacco, guard Marshal Yanda, linebacker C.J. Mosley, guard Ben Grubbs, and kicker Justin Tucker. “I have known Joe for several years and have admired his work with both the Ravens and the Bears,” general manager Howie Roseman said in a statement. “He is a guy that we had targeted from the outset. I feel that we are very fortunate to have him lead our player personnel department. [Ravens general manager] Ozzie Newsome and [Bears general manager] Ryan Pace spoke very highly of him and his work. He is passionate about football, passionate about scouting, and he played a vital role in the success of the Ravens over the last decade.” Weidl worked with Douglas in Baltimore, where he spent the last 11 seasons. The former Villanova offensive lineman also worked for the Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints. Follow me on Twitter: @AaronWilson_NFL Aaron Wilson covers the Texans for The Houston Chronicle.
