Eagles name linebackers, defensive backs coaches

A week after making a surprise move and promoting Juan Castillo from offensive line coach to defensive coordinator, the Philadelphia Eagles have named some position coaches to work with him.

Former Eagles linebacker Mike Caldwell, an assistant linebackers coach last season, has been promoted to linebackers coach. Former Eagles safety Michael Zordich, a defensive quality control coach last season, has been named the secondary/safeties coach.

Both Caldwell and Zordich have put in time o the staff. Caldwell was a coaching intern in 2007 and then became a defensive quality control coach. Zordich began as an intern too after coaching at Youngstown State and Cardinal Mooney High School in Youngstown, Ohio, following the end of his playing days.

Whether or not the hires complete Andy Reid’s staff or not is unknown. One source said Johnnie Lynn’s name had been linked to the Eagles. Lynn resigned from the San Francisco 49ers staff in December for personal reasons. It looks like Zordich will be the top coach for defensive backs too.
