Eagles rule Vick, Maclin out for Sunday

The Philadelphia Eagles removed any doubt from the equation as the team announced this afternoon that quarterback Michael Vick and wide receiver Jeremy Maclin have been ruled out for Sunday’s game at the New York Giants.

Vince Young will start in place of Vick, who suffered two broken ribs in last week’s stunning loss at Lincoln Financial Field to the Arizona Cardinals. Maclin is dealing with shoulder and ankle issues. Riley Cooper could get more action with Maclin out.

It means DeSean Jackson, in a tumultuous contract season, will need to step up as a playmaker. His play on the field hasn’t merited the kind of contract he is seeking. We’ll see if the Eagles can rally against an NFC East rival.
