Eagles shift Todd Herremans to right tackle

Let the musical chairs begin.

The Philadelphia Eagles have begun shaking up their offensive line.

With right tackle Ryan Harris sidelined for the immediate future – and maybe much longer now that he has to undergo back surgery – the Eagles have moved left guard Todd Herremans to right tackle. In the switchup, Evan Mathis becomes the starting left guard.

The Eagles have been forced to rearrange the line in recent seasons because of injuries. Now, Herremans will protect the blind side for quarterback Michael Vick. Pass protection is always key but with Vick’s mobility, it’s not as essential as it would be for a pocket passer with no movement.

The move makes financial sense for Herremans too. According to Adam Caplan, his contract includes a one-time escalator for $2.25 million if he plays tackle during the final three years of the deal.
