Eagles sign linebacker Rashad Jeanty
It’s been a long road back for Rashad Jeanty but he’s found a new team.
The Philadelphia Eagles have signed the veteran linebacker to a one-year contract a little more than 13 months after he suffered a grisly injury in an AFC wild-card game. Jeanty fractured his fibula on the opening kickoff of the game between his Cincinnati Bengals and the New York Jets. The injury forced him to miss the entire 2010 season as he rehabilitated.
Jeanty is known as a top special teams player and in four seasons with the Bengals he played in 53 games and made 32 starts. In 2008, he made a career-high 97 tackles.
The 27-year-old is a CFL veteran who played alongside Eagles cornerback Asante Samuel at Central Florida. A former Ed Block Courage Award winner, Jeanty could be in line for that high honor again if he can complete his comeback from a serious injury.
