Eagles will start rookie Nick Foles on Friday

With a compacted preseason schedule after playing on Monday night, the Philadelphia Eagles will start rookie Nick Foles at quarterback against the Cleveland Browns on Friday.

Reuben Frank of CSN Philly reports Foles could get up to a half of action in the game with other starters likely playing less than that. Trent Edwards will replace Foles and could finish the game.

The Eagles will likely sit starting quarterback Michael Vick for the remainder of preseason. Philadelphia closes out preseason Thursday, Aug. 30 vs. the New York Jets. Vick injured his ribs on the sixth offensive play on Monday at New England. Fortunately, X-rays came back negative and the team also received positive results on follow-up MRI and CT scans.

Vick, who was knocked out of the preseason opener with a thumb injury, does not have fractured cartilage, something that can be as painful as broken ribs. So, he remains on track to return for the regular season opener at Cleveland. Yes, the schedule is quirky with the Eagles playing at the Browns in Week 3 of preseason and then returning there two weeks later.
