Eli Manning restructures his contract
The focus of the NFL right now is on Peyton Manning and where he’ll sign a contract.
But it was his brother Eli Manning that most recently put his name on a contract, agreeing to a restructuring that will free up salary-cap room for the Super Bowl champion New York Giants.
According to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News, Eli Manning cleared about $6.75 million in cap space for the Giants. In doing that, Eli Manning lowered his base salary from $10.75 million to $1.75 million by converting $9 million into some type of guarantee. Whether it was a bonus, it’s not yet known. The amount, though, can now be pro-rated over the final four years of the deal. That creates the extra space for the Giants.
New York has some tough decisions to make on the roster and there will be considerable focus on running back Brandon Jacobs, who must agree to a salary reduction to remain.
