Eli Manning returning to practice for Giants
Eli Manning will be back to practice today for the New York Giants.
But he will not be wearing a helmet.
The franchise quarterback still cannot pull a helmet on his head with concern after he received 12 stitches last Monday to close a three-inch gash on his forehead. That means he will be wearing a baseball cap, according to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News.
Manning will participate in all drills and coach Tom Coughlin indicated the belief is Manning will be able to wear a helmet before the week is over. That could put him in line to play in the third preseason game on Saturday in Baltimore.
“We're certainly going to be very, very careful,” Coughlin said. “We do not allow anybody to touch the quarterback. It happens once in a while, but not too often. Most of our guys are really good at, if they do get free, they come up the field past the quarterback. We don't allow them to put their hands up or put their hands anywhere near where the quarterback's arm or release point would be.”
