Erasmus James pleads guilty to felony battery
Erasmus James, a first-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings back when their defensive line wasn’t so formidable, has pleaded guilty to felony battery, the result of a fight last November at a bar in Madison, Wis., where he starred in college.
James reportedly flipped out when a bartender refused to serve him after last call. A friend, Kyle Massey, tried to calm James down and James punched him, leading to a charge of substantial battery.
If James follows the guidelines of a program for first-time offenders, the charge will be dismissed, according to the Madison State Journal. Otherwise, he’ll find himself back before a judge for something known as sentencing.
James last played in the NFL in 2008 for the Washington Redskins. Now, if the Redskins could just get their problem lineman – Albert Haynesworth – to go away as quietly as James left Washington.
