Falcons LB Robert James suspended for 4 games by NFL

Robert James figured to face a real challenge to make it through training camp with the Atlanta Falcons this summer.

That challenge just got a lot more difficult for him. James has been suspended for the first four games of the season for violating the NFL’s policy on anabolic steroids and related substances, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

James will be eligible to participate in training camp and the preseason, but he is going to have to show coach Mike Smith and the Falcons an awful lot for them to save a spot for him starting in Week 5. James was a fifth-round draft pick from Arizona State in 2008.

The Falcons added depth and talent at the position this year when they drafted Missouri’s Sean Weatherspoon in the first round. He is expected to challenge for a starting job.
