Falcons will play Friday Night Lights again this summer

For the third consecutive summer the Atlanta Falcons will continue a “Friday Night Lights” program where they hold a free scrimmage at a high school stadium during training camp.

This year, they will be at North Gwinnett High School in Suwanee, Ga., on Aug. 6, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The Falcons do a nice job reaching out to fans with the event. Coach Mike Smith and various players will wear a microphone during parts of the event and it will be broadcast on local television.

This departure from the typical training atmosphere can’t be enjoyable for those involved, but Smith put the best spin on it and he’s right that they do connect with their fans – and hopefully sell some tickets to the Georgia Dome in the process.

“This is a special event for not only our fans, but for our players as well,” Smith told the AJC. “Our guys love going back to their roots and playing under the lights at a high school field every year.”
