Father of Eagles WR Jason Avant dies in car wreck

The father of Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jason Avant died after injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Jerry Avant, 51, was injured in a wreck in Pemberton Township, N.J., on Thursday. The Mount Holly, N.J., resident lost control of his Chevy Blazer on wet surface, per a report in PhillyBurbs.com.

"The Philadelphia Eagles are deeply saddened to learn of Jerry Avant's passing today. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jason, Stacy and the entire Avant family," the Eagles said in a statement.
